First one for me was the original Day of Defeat, this was when Broadband was just starting, I had dial up so was always being kicked. The first game playing properly was BF2, rattled off plenty of time on that.
I seem to remember a time when CoD4 came out and I was playing in an enemydown league for the RAFCGA that sometimes we would have scrims against the GVET boys.

TOCA3 uses gamespy so I guess so... Although I've not played that for a wee while!

Gamespy was the shizzle though, I remember I chipped in like 3 and got some premium account where I auto got any patches. Bout the same sort of time that if you wanted a demo, you'd leave the computer on all night to get a 200mb file... Then curse at it when it decided to drop connection ten mins after you went to bed. That was when I got "GetRight" which would resume downloads.

Not to mention the chat rooms, and the day you learnt all the IRC /tell /wave etc...

My first experience of multi-player was the shareware version of Doom, version 1.3 if memory serves, just two machines through a d-link network router.
My first actual online game was the original Unreal Tournament, to my mind still the most fun you can have with your clothes on

Favourite map is DM-Morpheus, the one on top of the tower blocks jumping back and fore with the low gravity was brilliant, floating through the air only to erupt into chunks of gore when someone blatted you with the rocket launcher.
Second favourite was Facing worlds (CTF-Face) riding the Redeemer into the opposition base to clear it for your own flag carrier.... Ace!

UT2004 was good in its own way, the vehicles, but they got the scaling wrong on Morpheus and Facing worlds.

UT3 never really caught me, except the assault levels.

Call of duty 4 is still my all time favourite though. Nothing has beaten Backlot for me. Backlot in an office, 6 people in a mini-lan on a netgear router called "Geezers palace" effkin great fun

Gooner will remember that I'm sure Seeing as how he was one of the 6

1st on line game was Counterstrike 0.7, I was introduced to it by a colleague Lee Hemming who in-turn introduced me to Steve (Wobbs) and it all went from there (BLSS). This was 98/99 which is where all this began I've been playing On-line games as part of the very same community for around 16 Years.

Its a Credit to Steve's commitment to something he is very passionate about as to How it has lasted and developed into what it is today. Not a Clan because Clans Fold and Implode its a community and that's the important Bit. A group of like minded individuals who just like to play, forget the seriousness of League matches and all that bollox I never bought into all that.

Lets just play and Blow shit up!!!

the good old days indeed, i miss the gaming side of things and all the banter on ventrilo / teamspeak.
with the combination of getting too old and slow at games and also not being able to keep up with you all as in being able to afford the new games, you find that you dwindle away into the distance and lose contact with most people (not all) which i must say has been a bit disapointing ,but i suppose its to be expected other than the few that take the time to make contact with me on facebook etc.
but there you go, those that matter and care still keep in contact thats the main thing.
but yes, i dont think you can ever beat the early days of online multiplayer gaming, i personally had hours of fun and some great laughs, i would love to go back in time and go through it all again

If i remember right it was Soldiers of fortune that really got me into Online playing. Spent huge amount of time playing that and then DoD came wich got me in to clan thing and not forgetting BF 1942 that still has the best game ever memories for me. Think all this happened about the same time when Plas was living over my place so that also had effect as we didnt have any teamspeak or ventriloservers. Might remember wrong as i was usually drunk when playing. So in away nothing has chanced for me
