I doubt you'll need much hardware wise to do this mate. If you do build a machine for it, go virtual... My laptop is running a whole fake domain virtualised with remote desktop enabled (with Hyper-V on Windows 8)... 1 domain controller, 2 member servers and a windows 7 client all managed from my desktop whilst the missus was still on there playing facebook bingo.

Virtual also means you can snapshot it, roll back, all with a couple of clicks and without system restore! Just make sure if you have two domain controllers to snapshot and restore them together. They don't like having a time gap of over 5 mins (as you'll find out later under authentication)

It's not a stellar laptop either. Core i3, 8gb ram... The RAM really helps though as all of them virtual machines have been issued their 1gb ration. More is better, but that gives 1 gb each and 4gb for the Missus on Facebook (because that's far more important!). It's not like your going to be putting SQL server on there and an Exchange installation so the virtual machines don't need much more than that!
