Default Upgrade Advice - bundle or not to bundle!

I decided I wanted a sata III ssd recently and then found out my mobo wouldn't support it.. So now I need a new mobo.. A new pcu.. (and cooler) and might aswell upgrade the RAM too..

What do you guys think of the over lockers bundles? the ones I was looking at were the i7 1155 chips but I would want about 12gb ram rather than 4-8.. but I like thier 4 GHz + overclocked pcus...

Is it worth considering the overclocked bundles or should I buy separately.. I reckon I can stretch to 700 quid for everything mentioned in the first paragraph

Thanks.. Its times like this I realise how little I know hehe

Those bundles seem very good for the money. You get them overclocked and tested and still under warranty. With 700 you should get a nice setup.

Habu got something recently so he might have an opinion on those.

Well if I was to buy all of the components individually from the top z68 mobo / i7 bundle it would cost 70 quid less, so is the overclocking worth 70 quid.. And then if I wanted to add more ram to the 8gb (I guess I wouldn't need 16gb) it would void the warranty
..
So tempted.

And also does overclocking lower the life expectancy of the system?

I bought a overclocked bundle. But just turned all the overclocking off in bios.

Why turn it off?
my current rig is
i7 920 2.66 GHz
6gb ddr3 1067 tri channel ram
Some random dell mobo

those parts are 3 years old now (mobo blew twice) but what difference is there to i7 2600k 3.4 @ 4.4 and 8gb ddr3 1600mhz with a new mobo!?

I have an i7 920 @2.67Ghz and 6Gb of DDR3 @ 1066Mhz o an ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, I recently upgraded from a GTX 285 to GTX 570, was thinking about one of the new i7 2600k's too, had a look at the performance upgrade on the likes of BF3, and for a new mobo and processor I'd get an extra 1-2 FPS, so wasn't really worth it, also looked at an i7 970, but again 1-2 FPS for 350 isn't worth it. Personally I'd get a new gfx card as that's where the big differences are in gaming. With my 570 I can run BF3 at Ultra settings ar 1920x1080 at 40-50 FPS. I do fancy on of those SSD drives too, but, again actual gaming performance won't improve, just load times etc.

I'm sure someone else may have some further input to add/ go against what I have said!

thanks, I've got a gtx 560 ti which did make a difference! I've heard that the ssd improved gfx as loading textures whilst moving in game etc is faster therefore slight improvement to fps! Whilst bf3 runs ok on high/ultra the pc itself tends to be a bit sluggish! Faster is better.. (well that's what i tell my missus anyway)

Last month in PC gamer they did an article where they compared bundle prices against buying the components seperately and found out that you could get the bits for around 50 quid cheaper.
