Default Raspberry Pi for the LAN

I have just got hold of one of these bad boys.

So I will set it up at the LAN for everyone to have a play with.

I will try and get a few games on there too, Quake looks quite good.

Quake is proving a right shit to get going. As I've updated my firmware, the libraries that it talks to are different to required recompiling from source code.

Get the latest from github for the Raspberry Pi (specific for it), compile it, moans that the code is wrong. So, get the latest from ioquake3 (open source quake 3) source code, compile it, run it, can't open renderer!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!! It can run a Quake 3 server though and it's remarkable how similar the output is to the CoD4 dedi server! I would try and get the CoD4 server on it, but A) it's underpowered and 2) I'd need the source code to recompile it for an ARM processor...

Still, I got a media center running on a different SD card, with iplayer, 4oD, ITVplayer, 5 catchup... All controlled from the remote app on my android phone. It has turned my standard telly into a smart telly for just over 30 sheets including a HDMI lead.

Terry / Percy

i was wondering if you'd had any more joy with your RasPis? Anything new and cool you'd like to share?

One should get to me in the next week but apart from using it record CCTV at home (dispute with neighbor that could get nasty) I want to play around with it!

i like the idea of the Smart Tv thing, i'm guessing that with the lack of flash / silverlight it can't cope with Netflix / YouTube?

Tbh, mine is sat with raspBMC installed. It's XBMC but for the hardware.

Has the youtube plugin, iplayer, itv player, 4od, etc. And remote controlled from my android phone. Since setting that up, I've not used anything else!

I found a different kiddies introduction to programming btw. Kodu by microsoft. It's pretty damn good! http://www.kodugamelab.com/
